One of the trickiest objects to store in self-storage units is the television. Still, with a few handy tricks and extra precautions, you'll be confident to safely keep and return your TV from your self-storage unit in excellent condition. Here's how to store a TV in a self-storage unit.
1. Using a microfiber cloth, clean your tv and its accessories, such as cables and remote. You can also use a compressed air duster to blow debris or dust from air vents and other small cracks. Make sure to thoroughly clean your television to avoid damage and corrosion while in storage.
2. Remove the stand and cables from your TV and put them in their original box or a labeled zip lock bag. Remember to remove the batteries from the remote control.
3. Ideally, you'll have to load the TV in its original box with foam packing inserts, but if those are no longer available, find a suitable cardboard TV box and use materials like bubble wrap and foam to wrap its screen and cushion its corners. Afterward, secure it with packing tape. Ensure that your tv perfectly fits the box, and you can add extra packing materials if necessary. You can use comforters, blankets, or heavy-duty dust covers.
4. Avoid placing the TV box in an area with extreme temperatures and humidity. Make sure that the TV box has its own space separate from other items in your self-storage unit. Keep it elevated and not on the ground. You can store it on top of a dresser, pallet boards, or shelves.
5. Place your TV box upright. Never store the TV on its back or screen down since this will put pressure on its screen, which can break the screen and damage its internal components. Mark the box and which side of the box the TV screen faces, for it will come in handy, especially when you must refrain from putting any items on top of the TV box.
